This teaching focuses on the idea that Jesus is in control, even in seemingly chaotic circumstances. The speaker references John chapters 18 and 19, specifically Jesus's interactions with Pilate, to illustrate how Jesus maintained control of the conversation, the circumstances, and his own "coronation."
The speaker highlights Jesus's responses to Pilate's questions, such as "Are you the king of the Jews?" and Jesus's statement in John 18:36, "My kingdom is not of this world." He also points to John 18:32, which states that events unfolded "to fulfill the word that Jesus had spoken to show what kind of death he was going to die." The speaker notes that Pilate's declaration, "Behold the man," and "Behold your king," carried double meanings, unknowingly fulfilling messianic prophecy from Zechariah chapter 6.
The sermon encourages listeners to live as if Jesus is in control, even when personal or global events feel out of control. It suggests applying spiritual disciplines like engaging with the Word, prayer, and community to surrender areas of life to God's reign and rule, finding peace in that surrender. The speaker references Jesus's words in John chapter 10, "No one takes it from me, but I lay it down on my own accord."
